RAW HAIR CARE
How to take care of your Raw Hair
Now that you've bought Raw hair, here's how to care for it.
After purchasing luxury hair it is vital to have a good maintenance routine. The better you look after it, the longer you can slay and wear it to its full potential.
Remember that Calibre Hair extensions is raw hair and has been cut from a real person's head. Once the hair has been cut from the donor, the constant supply of nutrients i.e. vitamins, iron, proteins, water etc. which are all responsible for the health, survival and continuous cell repair of individual hair strands are gone forever. This means your hair extensions won't receive its natural moisture and oils needed to stay "healthy" from its original hair donor. This is where you come in!
Hair Maintenance:
Hair maintenance is your responsibility. If you have damaged*, cut or bleached your hair extensions and are not satisfied with the outcome as a result, please note that we are not held responsible for your actions and are not able to offer an exchange or a refund.
How to wash Raw hair extensions:
We always recommend washing your hair extensions before wear! Freshly washed hair is so much easier to manage and style, and honestly makes such a big difference.
Detangle before washing. Use a wide tooth comb or detangling brush and work your way from the tips to the roots. Use lukewarm water and a mild moisturising shampoo & conditioner considering the following suggestions:
-Alcohol Free
-Sulphate Free
-Paraben Free
- Free from any oils
We recommend using RedKen All Soft Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner for straight hair. For curly hair we recommend using RedKen All Soft Mega Curls
We also recommend applying a small pump of a lightweight and nourishing hair serum after washing your hair extensions and before air drying your hair extensions to seal strands and lock in moisture.
Things to avoid:
- Using harsh shampoos that contain alcohol, paraben and sulphate
- Washing or boiling hair with hot water this will actually damage the hair
-Scrubbing the hair harshly
-Cutting the wefts this will make the wefts shed
- Excessive heat (too much flat ironing, blow-drying on high temperatures)
- Over-bleaching of hair (we recommend going to a specialised colourist)
- Pulling and tugging of hair (either on wefts or lace)
- Using the wrong hair tools i.e. brushes that are not suitable for heat (could melt and burn hair), brushes that are not suitable for detangling (could end up pulling hair out of wefts or lace), brushes that are not suitable for curls (do not have the ability to define curly hair wefts/lace) etc.
Doing any of the above will dry out your hair extensions, strip away its natural oils and moisture which will ultimately cause breakage, split ends and pre-mature "hair death".
Please be aware of shampoos with high oil content. It often achieves the opposite desired effect of retaining moisture. Shampoos with high oil content will block water from locking in the hair and will instead lock out water and moisture that the hair needs.
Things to do:
- Be gentle! Even though Raw hair is natural hair it is coarser and extremely delicate. It hasn't been coated in silicon's to give it that "Virgin Hair" slippery feeling. Having a healthy, consistent hair routine is essential with Raw hair.
- Wash with lukewarm water and never roughly scrub the hair/lace against itself
- Air dry extensions whenever you can
- Blow dry hair on low temperature (if heat is necessary)
- Treat hair with occasional trims to avoid split ends
- Seal your wefts to enjoy them longer
Hair Tools:
- Using quality heat protectors before applying heat - always!
- Use wide tooth combs to detangle bundles from the ends and work your way upwards
- Use a Denman D3 curl definition brush to define curly hair
